A technology is the unit you commercialise. It brings together one or more IP assets, invention disclosures, projects, documents and know-how that is not patented, and tracks its readiness, market potential and the companies interested in it.

Required role

  • Manage the technology portfolio and licensing (TTO staff, Owner).

Create a technology

Go to Technologies → Add and enter:

  • the name and the Summary for marketing. Do not include confidential information: if the technology is published in the catalogue, this text is shown publicly.
  • the Technical description: internal, never shown publicly.
  • Applications, Advantages, Sectors and Keywords,
  • Includes know-how if there is technical knowledge not protected by a patent, or in addition to one,
  • an internal note, visible to the TTO only.

A technology's status is Identified, In assessment, Being marketed, In negotiation, Licensed, Spun out or Inactive, and its strategy Undecided, Licensing, Assignment, Spin-off, Joint development or Open access. Archiving a technology removes it from the catalogue.

Team and source records

  • Team → Add person: directory people with the role Inventor, Researcher or Contact person. The team is a record of roles; it does not imply ownership or shares.
  • Source records → Link a record: an IP asset, Invention disclosure, Project or Document by its code. You can only link records you can see; records you can't open show their code only.

TRL assessment

On the TRL tab, Add assessment: the level from 1 (Basic principles observed) to 9 (Proven in an operational environment), Assessment date, Assessed by, Evidence and Next steps. The TTO sets the level; EnaTTO does not suggest one. The current level is the most recently dated assessment, and the history is kept.

Market assessment

On the Market tab, Add assessment: scores from 1 to 5 for IP strength, Market attractiveness and Commercial readiness, the Overall potential (Low, Medium, High), the Recommended strategy, the market, Target sectors and customers, Competitors and alternatives and notes. Scores and potential are the TTO's judgement; EnaTTO does not calculate them. The most recently dated assessment sets the technology's potential.
